Handicap Races

Fisherstown was the Venue for Race 4.
A lap by the Canal, a trial Run for the Laois Senior Road Race Championships, took place on Sunday March 27th.


2011 Handicap Programme got off to a great start, with 24 participants in Emo Woods. A new course was chosen, as the usual course was too icy.
The lap is roughly the same anyway ( going by the times - and not going by my initial guess !)

The next run will probabaly be in Togher Wood, - - last Sunday in January, or early February.








2010 Races
After a break for the Cross Country Championships, Handicap Runs resumed on Sunday 14th November, in Emo Court.

Straight Mile results from Vicarstown, on Sunday May 15th, are now published on file at bottom of this page.



The last "Straight Mile" of the year was held on Thursday evening, Sept 17th, in Vicarstown.

30 runners participated, and we have now exceeded the Target of "A Timed Mile for 100 People".
Roll on 2010, and a new Mile Target - watch this space.

Normal Handicap Runs will resume in a few weeks.

Race Number 17 was the 2 laps in Emo on Thursday Sept 9th. We didn't beat the rain, but it kept us cool !!!

Race Number 16 was the 5k "out and back" run, beside the the Grand Canal in Vicarstown, on Thursday September 2nd.
It's great to see a few new faces coming along.
26 people participated in the event, and enjoyed the warm sunny eveing, I hope !


Race Number 15 was the Straight Mile in Vicarstown, on Thursday August 26th at 7:30.
The target of "A Timed Mile for 100 People" was almost achieved - 97 people have now achieved a timed Mile.

Race Number 14, after the Holiday Break was 2 laps in Emo. 28 runners participated. It's great to see such big numbers turning out.

Race Number 13 was a return to scenic Glenbarrow, on Wednesday July 7th, for the 2 lap circuit.
( Road Maps and GPS Units will be issued next time ! )
Despite the confusion, a field of 24 runners enjoyed the evening.


Race Number 12 was the Straight Mile in Vicarstown on Thursday July 1st

Race Number 11 was the 2 laps in Oakvale Stradbally.


Race Number 10 was another Vicarstown Straight Mile, on Wednesday May 26th.
It was good to see a few new faces.
Jake and Dylan Byrne certainly ran well for their first night out, and will be joining Ian Corcoran in the "elite" group of Sub-6 Minute Milers before long.
Chris Finn got the better of big brother, and will surely break 4:40 in next run, when Colin Maher will be back after the Leaving Cert !
Jack Kealy knocked 3 minutes off his time - he is wondering if anyone alse can improve this much !!
Finbarr Crowley ran his customary scorching run, and is looking good for a big performance in the Community Games All-Ireland Final in Athlone at the weekend - best wishes Finbarr - go for it !!


Race Number 9 was the 2-lap circuit in Togher Wood, Portlaoise, on Sunday May 23rd.

Race Number 8 was a return to the 2 lap circuit in Emo, on May 16th.
Numbers were small as the date clashed with First Communions, Community Games, and even a few partys.

Apologies for the long break, I was ill for a few weeks.

Race Number 7 was a re-run of the Vicarstown Straight Mile, on Wednesday evening, April 7th.
35 runners and walkers completed the course, and a special well done to Jack Kealy - for whom this must have felt like a marathon.


Race Number 6 was the 2 lap circuit in Emo Woods - on Sunday March 14th.
38 runners participated, and it was good to see a few new faces. A few people seem to have dropped off, so could we all make an effort to contact them, and encourage them back. Results are updated, below


Race Number 5 was a Straight Mile in Timahoe, on Sunday 21st February.
30 runners participated.

Race Number 4 was cancelled at short notice, due to a family bereavement.
However Riobard Miller took everyone around the scenic route in Oakvale, Stradbally.


Race Number 3 was held in Killenard on Sunday January 24th.
A record 41 Runners completed the 3 lap course.
The Handicapper was kept busy, and was unable to record Lap 1 Times for all runners.

We now have had 130 runners participating, from some who only ran 1 race, to others who have ran almost all races.



Race No 2 was a Straight Mile, in Vicarstown, on Sunday January 17th
35 runners participated.

Results are on the file.

The first race of 2010 was held on Sunday, January 10th, in Oakvale Wood, Stradbally.
Fresh Snow and treacherous road conditions greeted early risers on Sunday morning, and 15 hardy lads and ladies braved the elements.
The conditions in the wood were ok, getting there was the problem.
Results are published on the attached file, just select the Date and Venue.
